A+ Tutorsoft

Big J is working in 3rd grade math this year and Little D has been doing 3rd grade review.  Being the little individuals they are, each has their own strengths and weaknesses.  The one stumbling block this year has been multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers.  Dry erase board, covering up numbers with fingers and pieces of paper...nothing was working.  So, I was excited to review A+ TutorSoft. 

According to the website, A+ TutorSoft, Inc provides highly animated interactive multimedia MATH learning products to help students improve their grades at all levels.

 I ordered the 3rd Grade Math Full Curriculum CD.  The cost of the CD was an astounding one cent (yep, a penny!) and the shipping cost was $1.99.  I paid the grand total of $2.00 via Paypal.  That was on a Wednesday.  On Thursday, the CD showed up in the mail - the next day!


I installed the CD on Big J's computer with no problem and I poked around the lessons.  I found it to be quite thorough, including lessons covering multiplication, division and geometry, just to name a few.  The problems were worked through, step by step.

The true test was Big J's reaction.  I thought he would be turned off by the lack of animation and "action" but he paid attention to the narrator, following along.  After he listened to the multiplication lesson, he completed a few lessons in his workbook.


Can you believe it?  It clicked!  He got it!  We had been struggling with multiplication but the simplicity in which the narrator explained the concept really stuck.

Within one hour of watching the lesson, Big J was able to complete this on his own.



It's not flashy so if you are looking for something with a lot of color and action, this may not be the best choice.  The explanations were clear cut and easy to follow along.  The CD contains a lesson completion checklist, worksheets and tests for each unit.  We will definitely be using this for the remainder of the year!
